    Contracts Manager

    Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises Pty Ltd (Kimbriki) is an innovative waste and recycling centre on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.  The Kimbriki site receives over 330,000 tonnes of waste annually, with over 80% currently being recycled into products such as mulch and gravels. Kimbriki is owned by Northern Beaches Council (96%) and Mosman Municipal Council (4%) and works closely with its community, customers, shareholders, employees, partners and the waste industry to deliver and promote innovative and efficient services that reduce waste to landfill and increase beneficial reuse opportunities. Kimbriki aims to be a centre of excellence for services associated with the management of waste.

    The Role
    Kimbriki is seeking a suitably experienced Contracts Manager. Currently the site is dependent on a broad range of contractors to support its activities in waste management and resource recovery.

    Current contracted services include:
    • Simple agreements for the provision of ongoing support like site security, surveying, monitoring and calibration of weighbridges, IT and software support;
    • 4 long-term service contracts with annual values up to $8 million to conduct key business elements around the reception and processing of waste with high levels of regulatory and compliance risk;
    • Short term civil works contracts for projects of 1 to 3 years duration ranging from $2.5 million to $9 million with complex interface and development approvals aspects; and
    • Short-term civil works contracts for smaller projects through a panel and schedule of rates arrangement.

    Kimbriki is entering an 18-month period where a significant number of the existing service contracts need to be renewed through a formal Local Government procurement process as well as reviewing our processes around the procurement and management of all contractors. There is also a significant element of contractor supervision to ensure existing operations are in line with Kimbriki’s regulatory and business requirements.

    The role will report to the General Manager Finance but requires regular and direct engagement with staff in Kimbriki’s Operations, Projects and Compliance areas.

    The Successful Candidate

    Kimbriki is run by a small, dedicated management team who share a common goal to demonstrate how waste management can be conducted in a consolidated, sustainable manner to minimise waste and maximise re-use and recycling.

    This role requires someone who is versatile, willing to take on a diverse range of tasks and work outside the traditional contract management role to drive changes in the culture of contractor staff and Kimbriki’s internal processes.

    Collaboration and communication are key skills and the successful applicant will need to be confident in a wide range of environments from on site amongst heavy plant and trucks to the Board room, regulators and stakeholder engagements.

    Essential Criteria
    • Qualifications in areas of Business, Finance/Accounting, Law, Project Management, Commercial Management or Engineering;
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in and knowledge of procurement and contract management including the costing and preparation of tender proposals;
    • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills including an ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills and a capacity to undertake audit and assessment processes to drive performance improvement;
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, plus the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work to reach agreed successful conclusions;
    • Capacity to operate both independently, using initiative and self-direction, and as a team member to produce consistently high-quality work.
