Boomerang Bags at Kimbriki continues to flourish, making significant contributions to our community!

The fortnightly Sewing Bees, committed to during the first three months of 2024, have proven to be immensely successful. These gatherings have not only achieved remarkable outcomes but have also welcomed numerous skilled sewers, following the Open Day held last November. The collaborative and creative spirit of this dedicated group has led to substantial growth and the completion of numerous projects.

Marina, Tanya, and the team have undertaken various tasks and collaborations, including:

  • Breast Care Bags: Creating bags designed to carry post-operative drains for patients at local Public Hospitals. This project was initiated through a contact at Girl Guides Australia.
  • Carrying Pouches: Designing pouches to hold patients’ pain relief devices for the Palliative Care Unit at Mona Vale Hospital.
  • Dolls Clothes & Accessories: Crafting clothes and accessories for the Toy Repair Recyclers at the HUB.
  • Network Heaven Collaboration: Meeting with volunteers from Network Heaven, an organisation supporting disadvantaged Sri Lankan children in rural areas. Boomerang Bags is utilising pretty fabric and haberdashery items to create dresses, hair accessories , drawstring pencil cases, and school bags throughout the year.

It’s important to highlight that all these projects are crafted from unwanted fabrics and haberdashery items donated to the group, which would otherwise contribute to landfill waste. Boomerang Bags at Kimbriki exemplifies a commitment to sustainability, turning discarded materials into meaningful items that benefit both local and international communities.
