#SewingWithPurpose was our focus this year is to support local community and not-for-profit organisations, by making textile items that assist them to provide their invaluable services.

DRAIN BAGS: These are used after breast cancer / other surgery to carry the patients’ drain. (A drain is attached to the body via a tube to release fluid into a bag). We will be making these for local health services as an ongoing project. Bags are supplied free of charge and can be returned to the hospital and reused.

  • Northern Beaches Hospital | Breast Care unit
  • Royal North Shore Hospital | Breast Care unit

SYRINGE DRIVER BAGS: Syringe drivers deliver medicines to patients receiving palliative care.  Our bags are designed to contain these units. Bags are supplied free of charge and can be returned to the hospital and reused.

  • Mona Vale Hospital | Palliative Care unit

WOMBAT POUCHES: When rescued macropods and marsupials are rehabilitated after rescue, they are housed in cosy pouches & liners to keep them warm and protected. We were asked by a Sydney Wildlife Rescue volunteer carer if we could make pouches for rehabilitating Wombats – YES PLEASE was the resounding response from our volunteers!

Our local community was asked for their unwanted fleecy zip-front jackets & vests, flannelette sheets & wooden coat hangers and the donations came in thick and fast. Donations included unwanted school uniform jackets from Collaroy Plateau, Cromer & Kambora Public Schools.

This will be an ongoing project as we would like to provide for other Sydney Wildlife Rescue volunteers in more regions of Sydney.

SEWING BEE.  We hold fortnightly sewing bee events at our studio in The Hub and everyone is welcome to join us.  All materials and tools are provided and there are lots of non-sewing jobs to be done if you don’t fancy sewing! Follow the Kimbriki What’s On page for coming dates.

Please join our Facebook site Boomerang Bags Northern Beaches – Kimbriki for dates, details and events.
