Northern Beaches Council 2024 Australia Day Awards

The Northern Beaches Council’s 2024 Australia Day Awards served as a tribute to the remarkable contributions of local residents, community groups, and events. These individuals and groups have devoted their time, skills, and energy to serve the community, embodying the true spirit of the Northern Beaches.

In this year’s awards ceremony, 13 inspiring individuals, along with a Community Group and the Community Event of the Year, were honored across various categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over)
  • Young Citizen of the Year (under 25 years)
  • Outstanding Community Service Awards
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year *New Award

The awards were presented during a ceremony led by Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins at Glen Street Theatre on Thursday 25th January 2024. Among the attendees were Kimbriki CEO, Peter Davis, and notable individuals such as Marina Barker (Boomerang Bags), Robyn Waters, and Peter Braun (Peninsula Senior Citizen Toy Recyclers).

Peninsula Seniors Toy Recyclers, currently transitioning from their previous Ingleside premises to The HUB at Kimbriki, received well-deserved acknowledgment for their dedicated work. Terry Cook, leading a team of over 30 volunteers, tirelessly refurbishes a multitude of toys, games, books, dolls, and bicycles. These items are then distributed to local charities and sent to underprivileged children globally, with the primary goal of bringing hope and joy to those in need. Terry’s commitment to environmental sustainability, by keeping unwanted items out of landfill, reflects a significant and continually growing effort.
