Metal Recycling
The recycling of metal reduces the growing demand for natural resources such as ore. When more and more metals are recycled, the demand for the natural metal is reduced.
How to Recycle your Metal at Kimbriki?
We encourage all metal and items made of metal to be sorted from loads and not placed in landfill. Even if that metal is surrounded by other materials like plastic, it’s worth recycling if it’s made mostly out of metal.
Special Conditions
The general rule is that a product needs to be at least 80% metal. If the item is less than 80% metal then it is considered Mixed Waste and needs to go to area 5 and mixed waste charges apply.
Examples of objects that may pass the 80% metal recycling criteria are:
Acceptable items like hot water systems, metal roofing sheets, bicycles, ovens, washing machines, clothes dryers, microwaves, corrugated iron, guttering, electrical appliances, lawn mowers, shipping container, trailers etc.
Please Note: All items are subject to site inspection.
- Fridges, freezers and air conditioners must be de-gassed before recycling for free. If not degassed a charge will apply and items dropped to de-gassing area (next to Metal).
- Motorised push bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, Power tools etc. must have their battery removed and the battery can be taken to Drop Off Point 5 for free recycling at the Batteries and fluro Shed.
- Hot Water systems insulated with Asbestos are not accepted at Kimbriki.
- Petrol and Oil must be removed from all items (lawn mowers, motorised bicycle, gardening tools and oil heaters etc.) before disposal. Oil in separate containers (to maximum of 10L) can be disposed of at Kimbriki’s motor oil area at no charge.
