Course Summary
The workshop is designed to support teachers and increase understanding of how sustainability and waste can be taught in schools. Teachers will be mentored by experienced waste educators to:
- learn the Kimbriki compost and waste principles (the RRRR’s, ADAM) and take away best practice organics waste initiatives for their school
- understand how to run a school waste audit to improve school waste management
- learn how to integrate cross curriculum sustainability priorities
- be introduced to the Kimbriki Education Hub teaching resources that they can use to explore waste issues with their students
- integrate Kimbriki Education Hub Garden resources – senses wander, it’s all about soil, investigating creatures, soil detectives and growing food
- share ideas about how their school can imbed sustainable outcomes and achieve sustainable goals
- engage with the global UN Sustainable Development goals
- welcome all-ability activities in an outdoor education setting
This hands-on workshop will enable teachers to feel confident with teaching lessons and also make changes in their school to minimise waste and showcase sustainability in action.

How to get to Kimbriki’s Eco House & Garden?
- Please note. There is no public transport to Kimbriki.
- You are welcome to carpool to help with parking.
- Entry and exit is via the weighbridge as this is an active landfill site.
- Drivers please proceed to the entry weighbridges, either A or B and adhere to the traffic lights.
- Stop at the window and ask our staff to direct you to the Eco House & Garden, approx. 50m ahead and slightly left.
- Park in the Eco House Car Park in car spaces provided.
Facilities on the site include:
- Eco House education building
- Eco Garden
- Toilets – located at the rear of the Eco Garden
- A disabled access toilet. Most of the Eco Garden is wheelchair accessible.
What to bring?

- Lunch will be provided.
