Mr Speaker: on November 16th, the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre will host its Open Day to celebrate 50 years of operations in the waste management and resource recovery industry. The Kimbriki site is a state-of-the-art recycling and waste management facility located on the Northern Beaches. The open day will provide a rare opportunity for locals to witness firsthand the circular economy in action. Activities on the day will consist behind the scenes bus tours of the site, worm farming and composting demonstrations, giveaways, and an all-day sausage sizzle to raise funds for Boomerang Bags, Bikes4Life and Peninsula Toy Recyclers. Kimbriki was originally established as a landfill in 1974.

However, through the establishment of complex resource recovery operations on site, the Kimbriki site today recycles close to 80 percent of all waste it receives annually. At present, more than 4 million tonnes of waste have been diverted from landfill. This significant shift from waste disposal to recycling and resource recovery has earned Kimbriki national and global recognition as a pioneer in waste disposal and resource recovery excellence and innovation. I congratulate Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre on this historic milestone.
