Harbour View Children’s Centre

We had a bit of a discussion and found it hard to award to one person.

The people who we wanted to celebrate were preschool room children and educators, and Sam our cook.

They have all been instrumental in the success of our compost bin and worm farm project. Through their ongoing commitment, dedication, and willingness to share information and helpful tips, the project has grown into something truly special. Families are now taking home compost, contributing their food scraps, and actively engaging in the process.

What makes this achievement even more meaningful is that the entire initiative is child-driven, with educators and Sam providing only minimal guidance. Their passion has inspired the children, who in turn have passed that enthusiasm on to the whole community. This shared commitment (and the amazing Angie) is the reason the project has been such an outstanding success.

Cromer Campus

Class R – Ms Francis’ class who have been working very hard to make their compost system work and have increased the system from 6 bins to 25 in this first year and now producing mature compost for school gardens and to sell to the community.

Wakehurst PS

Finn Brussulo of Year 2 will be our recipient for 2025. He has been an eager participant in creating and maintaining the garden over the year, showing initiative and a curiosity to learn and develop his skills as a gardener. He loved to see the workings of the compost as well as how worms transformed into a rich usable soil. His keen attitude and consistent attendance and effort make him a very worthy participant.

Seaforth PS

Lexi in Year 3 for her ongoing interest and engagement in sustainability initiatives at Seaforth PS.

Beauty Point PS

Thijmen Koot – Year 4. A very engaged Green Agent who has been extremely supportive and organised all year long with the worm farms and composting system.

Belrose Children’s Centre

Pre- School room children who were collecting all of the stickers from the fruit and sent a letter to Woolworths expressing their concerns about the worms eating the stickers and getting sick. The children were keen to protect the worms and the valuable soil they are creating in their composts and worm farms.

Sekayi Gilbert – most proactive in collecting class recycling and food scraps and always keen to help out.
