E-waste is one of the fastest growing solid waste streams in the world. In 2022, an estimated 62 million tonnes of e-waste were produced globally, but less than a quarter was recycled appropriately.

At Kimbriki, e-waste is classed as Televisions, PC.s, Laptops, tablets, notebooks, home printers and computer parts and accessories, NOT simply everything electrical. E-waste is accepted at Household Problem Waste Drop Off Point 3 for FREE. This area is partnered by TechCollect which is a free national recycling service for computers, computer accessories and TVs (e-waste). TechCollect was established in response to the Federal Government’s National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS) and is the only not-for-profit industry backed e-waste recycling service approved under the NTCRS.

Why should we recycle E-waste?

E-waste (electronic products that have reached the end of their “useful life”) contains many harmful chemicals. If these products end up in landfill, these toxins can leak into the soil and have devastating impacts on the local environment. We need to change our habits by treating e-waste recycling as the next step in an electronic product’s lifecycle. Help us protect the environment and educate your family, friends and neighbours about the importance of keeping e-waste out of landfill!

Kimbriki has provided a positive environmental impact in 2023/2024 Financial Year. TechCollect recycled 17,803 tonnes of National Televisions and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS) “in scope” e-waste. 297,832 kilograms of that was collected at Kimbriki.

The objectives of the scheme:

  • Reduce waste to landfill, especially the hazardous materials found in electronic waste (e-waste).
  • Increase the recovery of reusable materials in a safe, scientific and environmentally sound manner.
  • Provide convenient access to recycling services for households and small businesses throughout Australia.

The following is not accepted in e-waste:

Electrical Appliances, Mobile Phones, Game Consoles i.e Xbox, Video Recorders, DVD players, Radios, stereos, Power tools, Digital set top boxes

PLEASE NOTE: mobile phones and batteries can be recycled at Mixed Waste Drop Off Point 5 – to the appropriate bins.
