Welcome to the Kimbriki Newsletter – Winter 2023, our quarterly community Newsletter providing updates on the Kimbriki site, Eco House & Garden events, environmental initiatives, and a range of waste and recycling news.The Clean Water Diversion System infrastructure project is progressing well with a significant percentage of work completed. This project aims to safeguard our site against temporary flooding and protect the surrounding bushland environment at Kimbriki.
Kimbriki are continuing their current 12-month partnership with reDirect Recycling. Since its conception in 2020, reDirect Recycling has been investing in infrastructure and reclaiming materials that would otherwise go to landfill, reducing waste, and creating materials for beneficial reuse. Together, we are offering the community the chance to save money and the environment by sorting out their engineered timbers separately for a minimum fee of $6 for up to 20kg or $288 per tonne. What was previously dropped to Mixed Waste and sent to landfill at the full mixed waste price can now be recycled into new particle boards for reuse. Loads will undergo inspection on arrival. We ask for your support to keep this program running and separating your loads for recycle when loading. For a list of acceptable waste items, please CLICK HERE.
Northern Beaches Council will be running another Free Polystyrene drop-off day for the community on Saturday 16th September from 8am till 4pm. Please drop Polystyrene loads to The HUB by turning off to the left as you head down the hill into the main Kimbriki site.

Kimbriki continues to recycle 80% of all materials that we receive, and we would like to take the time to thank you as a member of the community for your ongoing efforts to sort your materials and utilise the wide array of recycling options provided onsite. Kimbriki is working hard to continually keep improving these statistics with helpful stories, information and initiatives over our website, newsletters and social media channels.
Kimbriki’s Eco House and Garden is a unique education centre dedicated to exploring how to live in a more sustainable way, a place for you to experience, learn and be inspired.
Set within the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre, the education centre was built in 1999 and comprises of an organic garden and Eco House constructed primarily from materials recovered from the Kimbriki site, otherwise destined for Kimbriki’s landfill.

INTRODUCING THE HUB AND COMMUNITY GROUPS
As you descend into the Kimbriki precinct, you’ll notice the previous administration building on the left side. This building, now known as THE HUB, has become the home of several community groups carefully selected based on their initiatives and alignment to a shared circular economy vision.
HUB stands for ‘the effective centre of an activity, region, or network,’ perfectly representing the collaboration and collective efforts of these community groups. As part of the larger movement to rethink, reduce, re-use and recycle society’s previously loved items, the four HUB residents exemplify these principles and work together to support each other and Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre.

Kimbriki’s Buy Back Centre showcases the complete recycling process by recovering more recyclables from landfill and making them available to the community for purchase at fair and competitive prices.
Kimbriki aims to provide a better source of reused and repurposed materials, allowing everyone in the community to participate in our recycling vision! The Buy Back Centre offers salvaged building materials, second-hand timber, furniture, flooring materials, fencing, doors, windows, bathtubs, kitchen sinks, tiles, books, bicycles (for spare parts), skis, surfboards, and more.

Please note that items cannot be donated or dropped off at the Buy Back Centre free of charge. All items for sale are salvaged from the mixed waste drop-off zone.
