Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre invites the community to our Open Day 2023 at The HUB – Kimbriki. Highlighting the four resident not-for-profit organisations and their dedicated volunteers. Each group shares Kimbriki’s passion for reducing waste to landfill through recycling, repairs, donations and innovative workshops inspiring creative reuse of waste materials.

Drop by the Eco House & Garden as part of the Sydney Edible Garden Trail, or visit the Buy Back Centre to understand and see firsthand the huge amount of reusable items salvaged from landfill.

DROP OFF YOUR PRE-LOVED, BRAND NEW & UNWANTED TOYS, BOOKS, PUZZLES, KIDS BIKES, GAMES AND SPORTING EQUIPMENT TO THE HUB, KIMBRIKI 9AM – 2PM (please donate respectfully to children and families in need). Experience Toy Workshop Tours throughout the day with the volunteer team and learn the processes involved in restoring toys and where toys are donated worldwide.

Come and see what we create out of unwanted textiles! Have a go at making your own reusable shopping bag from an old t-shirt. We will demonstrate basic mending tips to help give your clothes a longer life. View our display of antique sewing machines and have a go on our 120+ year-old hand-crank machine.

Meet the team, pick up some sustainability tips and tricks, be inspired by creative reuse possibilities, and come along to our drop-in maker session: Flipped Fashion (DIY jewellery).

ECO HOUSE & GARDEN & SYDNEY EDIBLE GARDEN TRAIL 

Kimbriki’s Eco House and Garden is open for the 2023 Sydney Edible Garden Trail, come and meet our ecologists in our peaceful and thriving greenspace in the heart of a working Resource Recovery Centre. See the many resources redirected from landfill to be reused and recycled. The Eco House and Garden design is based on permaculture principles and the 4 R’s – Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Features of the garden include a strawbale composting toilet building, hempcrete demonstration building, propagation nurseries, compost and worm farming areas, eco shop, shaded seating areas and demonstrations on the day.
