Kimbriki accepts large bulk amounts of polystyrene (subject to site inspection) to dispose of in Mixed Waste.
- EPS (Expanded Polystyrene)
Used for general wall, roof and floor insulation, protective packaging, void fillers, waffle pods for concrete slabs, and lightweight architectural shapes or signage.
- XPS (Extruded Polystyrene)
Used for demanding load-bearing or wet environments, such as under concrete slabs, inverted roofs, parking decks, green roofs and perimeter slab-edge insulation where high moisture resistance and heavy compressive loads are critical.
What is the difference between EPS and XPS?
- Expanded Polystyrene (EPS): Made by expanding and fusing small foam beads together in a steam mold. This leaves microscopic interstitial voids between the beads. It is very lightweight (98% air), highly cost-effective and easy to shape.
- Extruded Polystyrene (XPS): Made through a continuous melting and extrusion process with blowing agents, creating a uniform, tightly packed closed-cell matrix with virtually no gaps. It offers higher density, superior compressive strength and near-zero water absorption.
