Working with Insulation at home

Disposing of old insulation is important for you and your family’s health as well as the environment. Insulation can be made from a variety of materials, such as recycled glass, polyester or even crushed rock.

  • As you remove the insulation, make sure it goes directly into bags or wrapped in plastic and isn’t left lying around on your floors or ceiling floors. This can contaminate your living space or get whipped up by your air conditioning and recirculated through your home.
  • Choose a well-ventilated space to work in and wear the appropriate attire for disposing of insulation, such as gloves, goggles, mask, and long sleeves.
  • Isolate yourself in the disposal space and select bags to dispose of insulation.
